thelilsparoom-galvanicspaIt’s finally here! I know some of you have asked to order the new Galvanic Spa while there were unavailable. They couldn’t come in at a better time; get your skin holiday ready in the comfort of your own home with the new and more effective Galvanic Spa. This new FDA cleared Spa is a stronger current & works even better than the previous Spa device.  It is technically a medical grade “tens unit” device and are used in doctor’s offices. The current works to stimulate circulation, strengthen elasticity, diminish fine lines, minimize breakouts, hydrate and rejuvenate the skin. (Also allows ageLOC ingredients to penetrate deeply into the skin.) This device has been successful in my treatment room in my Galvanic Spa Facial and now this will be a household device. We can make a great team to keep your skin youthful and elasticity firm between your facial treatments in the studio and you using your Galvanic Spa at home.

Diminish Dark Spots at Home

Now that fall is here and we are no longer sunbathing, dark spots, freckles, and after sun tan darkness on our skin is more obvious. My clients have been focusing on receiving chemical peel series along with microdermabrasion treatments to even their skin tone and diminish the hyperpigmentation on their skin. Getting regular skin care treatments does play a huge part in keep the skin discoloration from returning, but what helps the most is having a great at home skin care regimen as well.

Here is a great skin care regimen for skin types that have had issues with dark spots, hyperpigmentation, pregnancy mask, and hormonal discoloration. Benefits of the system includes: reducing the appearance of existing dark spots, uneven skin tone, and discoloration for a more brilliant complexion. Promoting luminous, clear skin, and maintaining an even, bright skin tone for translucent beauty.

Morning Skin Care: Cleanse, Tone, & Moisturize

morning skin care regimenTaking care of our skin daily is the best way to keep looking fresh, fine lines from appearing and have smooth, soft skin. Having a daily skin care regimen doesn’t take long to do at all and is easy to incorporate with your daily everyday routine when getting ready in the morning. Not cleansing or taking care of your skin in the morning? Yes, I know…snooze about 3x, then off to work you go! Think of about it this way, during the night your pores accumulate natural oils and no telling what other debris. It could come from a soiled pillow case, your cell phone, or whatever else you put close to your face in the evening.
Cleansing: Each morning, if your face is not cleansed before applying skin care products or makeup, the oils and debris from the previous night will be covered. This could be the beginning of some very yucky skin problems. Every morning your face should be cleansed to prepare it for your moisturizer, sunblock, & make-up. Save time by keeping your cleanser in your shower.

Toning: After cleansing your face the pores are open. If left open, moisture can leave the skin, which leads to dehydrated skin.  Applying toner will also remove any other residues & help
close the pores to prep your skin for a moisturizer. Closed pores has another benefit, it stops dust & other air born particles from settling in the pores which can cause breakouts or blackheads. Have your toner set on your sink next to your brush, it’ll take about 15 seconds to apply it.
Moisturizing: Moisturizer leaves the skin feeling soft, smooth,  and helps minimize fine lines & dryness. Apply moisturizer after the toner, while your skin is still damp. Gently massage the moisturizer into your skin with smooth upward strokes. (great for your elasticity) Have extra-dry areas? Then use a little extra moisturizer in those spots. Think of your moisturizer as your primer before your makeup.

A morning skin care regimen is not time consuming at all, especially when you think of the great things it does for your skin. Simply keep your products by the things you use on a daily basis. Before you know it, it will all be part of your everyday regime! Remember…Cleanse…Tone…Moisturize!
My favorites:

Water: A Natural Moisturizer

water for your skinSkin will be tighter since the water you are taking in will be replenishing you. Water intake naturally increases the elasticity making your fine lines lessen. Water acts as a natural moisturizer – giving a ‘brightening’ effect. If your skin is not getting the sufficient amount of water, the lack of hydration will present itself by turning your skin dry, tight and flaky. Dry skin has less resilience and is more prone to wrinkling. So…. drink up!

Spooky Halloween Party Recipes

Disgusting Diaper Dip Halloween Recipe
A tasty hummus made from black beans and chickpeas, it’s actually pretty awesome! But this is one of those disgusting Halloween recipes that’s all about presentation. And if you present this Diaper Dip right, only the bravest of your guests will be willing to try it.

Ingredients:
1 can (15 oz.) black beans, drained
1 C. cooked, drained chickpeas (garbanzos)

1/4 C. chopped fresh cilantro
1 1/2 tsp. ground cumin
1 tsp. paprika
2 tbsp. olive oil
2 cloves garlic, coarsely chopped
Salt, to taste
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Greek yogurt or olive oil, if needed to thin

Instructions:

Severed Fingers Halloween Recipe
You can also try a small piece of onion for the nail, if you like, but I think the yellow bell pepper gives the best impression of thick, gross-looking yellow nails. Recipe below is for one serving– just multiply to make as many as you need.

Ingredients:
3 cocktail sausages
3 triangles of yellow bell pepper
Ketchup or BBQ sauce, as needed

Instructions:
1. Bring a pot of water to a boil.
2. To make each serving of three fingers, create 3 shallow horizontal slices about halfway up each cocktail sausage for “knuckles.”
3. Boil sausages until cooked, about 2-3 minutes. Let cool slightly.
4. With a sharp knife, cut a small flat space at the tip of the sausage for a “nail.” Using a bit of ketchup, mayonnaise, or BBQ sauce, press a nail into each finger.
5. Fill a cup (in the photo it’s a plastic muffin cup, but you can use a ramekin, a little clear glass, or whatever) with a couple tablespoons of ketchup, BBQ sauce, or any other red-colored sauce. Place assembled fingers in the cup, burying the ends slightly in the sauce. Serve hot.

Tip: Heating the sauce helps keep this disgusting Halloween food from cooling down too fast.

Halloween Pumpkin Eggnog Recipe
Ingredients:
4 C. milk (I use 2%)
1 C. canned pumpkin puree
7 lg. eggs
1 C. granulated sugar
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. freshly ground nutmeg
1 C. whipping cream
1 tsp. vanilla extract
Spiced rum (such as Capitan Morgan), to taste
10-12 cinnamon sticks (to garnish)
Pumpkin pie spice, as desired (to garnish)

Instructions:
1. In a large, heavy saucepan, whisk together the pumpkin puree and the milk. Bring slowly to a gentle boil. Remove from the heat.
2. Meanwhile, beat together your eggs and sugar in a heat-resistant bowl.
3. To temper your egg mixture, pour a small amount of your hot milk into the eggs, whisking constantly. Add a bit more, whisking all the while, until your egg mixture is hot and close to the temperature of your milk mixture.
4. Slowly and gradually whisk your tempered egg mixture into your milk mixture. Return to a medium-low heat.
5. Add cinnamon and nutmeg. Cook, whisking constantly, until the mixture coats the back of a spoon. Remove from heat and stir in cream, vanilla, and rum to taste.
6. Cover and refrigerate up to 24 hours. You’ll want to let it chill for at least four hours to let the flavors combine. Garnish each serving with a cinnamon stick and a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice.

Tip: If your eggs weren’t tempered perfectly, you may end up with a few egg bits in your nog. If this happens, simply strain the pumpkin eggnog into your Halloween party punch bowl before chilling.

Decorating: If you want to make this Halloween party punch look a little more spooky, you can add a bit of orange food coloring before you chill it. Decorate with a little bit of black-colored sugar. Serve in a punch bowl or pretty little cups. I like clear ones.
