pinacoladasJuly 10, 2014 is Piña Colada Day! You don’t need to be on a beach to enjoy this refreshing tropical pina colada recipecocktail. No matter where you are in the world, a piña colada is a great way to sit back, relax, and enjoy a little taste of the summer. Did you know that piña coladas originated in San Juan, Puerto Rico? The term, “piña colada” means “strained pineapple” in Spanish, which makes perfect sense! A traditional recipe calls for pineapple juice, light rum, and coconut cream poured over crushed ice. If you like piña coladas (“and getting caught in the rain!”) fix yourself an ice cold drink, top it with a mini umbrella, and celebrate National Piña Colada Day while giving yourself a DIY beauty treatment!

DIY pineapple body scrubDIY Body Scrub:

Ingredients:
1/4 cup raw sugar
1 tbsp. coconut oil
1 oz pineapple juice

Directions:
In a microwave-safe bowl, heat up the coconut oil for 30 seconds. It will soften the solid coconut oil, making it easier to mix and will feel amazing on your feet.

Mix the coconut oil with the raw sugar. Try using a fork or a hand mixer for a very blended mix.

Finally, add the pineapple juice and blend well. Real pineapple is preferred (1 oz), just puree it first. Pineapple serves as an exfoliant because it contains enzymes that remove dead skin cells to relieve dryness in skin.

Use hands, cloth, foot brush, etc. to apply and scrub soles of feet. Wash well with warm water & pat dry. Scrub for at least 20 seconds before washing away. Scrub your feet and let the scrub rest there for a minute or two, meanwhile you get to enjoy the yummy tropical aromatherapy.

You can also use this scrub on other areas of the body that need exfoliating and softening such as hands, elbows, knees, and pretty much anything from the neck down. Do not use this scrub if you have freshly shaved or waxed skin. If you have sensitive skin, give yourself a small skin patch test. Pineapple does have Vitamin C (citric acid), which you may have sensitivity to. Also, always moisturize all areas that were exfoliated. Don’t forget to enjoy a piña colada while enjoying your smooth freshly exfoliated skin.
