Happy Earth Day! What is the Earth Day? Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated on April 22, on which day events worldwide are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970, and is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network, and celebrated in more than 192 countries each year. Get involved in your local community events and start family traditions to celebrate Earth Day! Here are a 5 ways to observe this special day:
- Plant a tree or flowers in your yard. Not only would this be a great and fun family activity, its good for the environment and provides animal habitats, will make your home look pretty and provide shade, and they say gardening is very therapeutic. Don’t forget to shop at your local nursery!
- Visit the great outdoors for a nature hike; nothing like appreciating the beauty of our planet! Find a nearby park or better yet, explore one you have never been to.
- Set goals to save energy; change your light bulbs, keep your a/c unit set at a comfortable setting, adjust your fridge setting. These are all ways you can conserve energy and save on your electric bill as well.
- Attending a local Earth Day event is always a fun way to celebrate! Visit your city’s social media pages or Google Earth Day events in your city and see what fun events they have in store! If you’re in San Antonio, click here.
