SeaWorld Wave Breaker Rescue Coaster

This week I was invited to the VIP media event of SeaWorld San Antonio’s new rollercoaster Wave Breaker Rescue Coaster. Growing up going to SeaWorld since the park first opened, I love being a part of experiencing their new additions; especially new rollercoasters. Having attended the media event with my closest friends made trying out the new ride even more enjoyable. The Wave Breaker is the first ride in the SeaWorld portfolio that speaks to the company’s rescue mission, combining the thrill of a coaster with the adrenaline rush of a marine animal rescue and is inspired by the SeaWorld Rescue Team and its efforts, which have helped to rescue and rehabilitate more than 30,000 animals over the company’s 50-year history.

The new family friendly coaster ride was fast and smooth and great. It’s twists and turns were swift yet subtle and enough to give you butterflies in your tummy. Just like any coaster, I always get my nerves going knowing that first big drop is coming; when on The Wave Breaker, it felt like I was on a fast jet ski bouncing off big waves; I giggled like a school girl the entire time. In my opinion, the coaster is great for someone who has never been on a rollercoaster before or someone that has always been afraid of coasters. It wasn’t scary at all and super fun! What I liked about Wave Breaker The Rescue Coaster is how secure I felt with the lap bar restraint that kept me comfortably snug in my seat. (For convenience, SeaWorld has an example car at the entrance of the ride for guests to try out proper seating and safety restraints.) If you are one that doesn’t like to get wet, you’re in luck; Wave Breaker is not a water ride. With 90 percent of the track out over the water at the park’s lake and getting on it a second time right at sundown, I felt like I was racing across the surface of the water right into the sunset.

For those of you who are familiar with the different types of rollercoasters, The Wave Breaker is a launch coaster. Its unique jet-ski style ride vehicle engages riders in a straddled seating position, emboldening them to grip the handlebars and lean into a series of banked and serpentine turns as they race into action. The new coaster will use friction drive propulsion, which uses electricity and friction to quickly propel the coaster train through two exciting launches.  Manufactured in Intamin, Switzerland, which has a portfolio that includes more than 100 high-quality, innovative amusement park rides and coasters throughout the world, it’s no wonder SeaWorld chose Intamin for The Wave Breaker. The construction of The Wave Breaker began in October 2016 with Wave Breaker: The Rescue Coaster opening to the public on June 16, 2017. The coaster is more than 2,600 feet of track, goes 44mph, has 8 coaches per train, 2 riders per coach, and the ride last more three minutes. Height Requirement for Wave Breaker The Rescue Coaster is 48 inches and its located across from Penguin Plaza.

As much as I want everyone to have the great experience on The Wave Breaker that I did, safety does come first. With that said, guests in good health should ride Wave Breaker. Those who are pregnant, have high blood pressure, heart conditions, neck or back problems or have had recent surgery should not ride. Loose articles like cell phones, hats and glasses are not allowed on Wave Breaker and should be left in a locker or with your party that isn’t riding the coaster. Glasses that are secured with a strap are allowed on the ride. I hope you have a great experience on The Wave Runner just as my friends and I did.
