A Girl’s Trip & 3 Hill Country Towns in One Day
Good friends take a Monday off from work and home life when they know you are off on Mondays. It’s true. This week 2 of my friends and I ventured into the Texas Hill Country for a long overdue girl’s trip. Though we were limited on time, we fit in a hearty breakfast, a nature walk, wineries, and 3 small towns. Not bad for road tripping during school hours.
Our first Hill Country stop was in Bandera, Texas also known as the Cowboy Capital of Texas. There, we stopped at the O.S.T. Restaurant. The restaurant had an old-fashioned diner feel to it. It’s western décor and props, you really felt like you were in the Cowboy Capital. If you are a John Wayne fan, you will totally appreciate the “John Wayne” room. The comfort food establishment had all your breakfast favorites and family-style meals. (I had the breakfast enchiladas.)
The perfect October weather and being so close to the Medina River, we couldn’t help but take a nature walk at the Bandera River Park. The river runs right through the park and you can’t help but take pictures of its giant old trees. The park is located downtown Bandera, Texas.
The 3 of us are wine lovers so, we wanted to visit a couple of wineries before our day out was over. Being that it was a Monday, many of them are closed. Thank goodness for Google, we found a few that were open; off to Kerrville, Texas we went, our second Hill Country town of the day. Our first winery was Kerrville Hills Winery; its Kerrville’s first winery. The winery sits up at the top of a hill high above Kerrville and the Guadalupe River Valley and the winery and tasting room are built on the footprint of an original Kerrville homestead. The winery was comfy and cozy and what made our visit even better was the winery manager. Kerrville Hills Winery manager Brenda, welcomed us as soon as we walked through the door. She went over each wine as we went through our tasting and gave us tips on what foods and desserts to pair with them. The winery offers tours, events, and it’s tasting room hours are Thursday – Monday, 11 am – 6 pm.
Our next winery stop was in Comfort, Texas. The road trip from Kerrville to Comfort was nice. Scenic with lots of oaks trees, hills, valleys, and windy roads, the drive to Singing Water Winery was an adventure. The winery is a bit hidden but, once you drive into it, you immediately see 6 acres of vineyard. The tasting room is a local historic barn that was refurbished. When you walk outside of the tasting room, there is a deck and tree house that overlooks a seasonal creek, and a large pavilion. Everyone was sweet and welcoming to us at the winery and gave us a bit of history about it. Winery h hours are: Thursday- Monday 11am – 6pm, Sunday 12pm-5pm, Tuesday and Wednesday closed.
After great food, nature, wine, and scenic views, our ride home consisted of girl talk and good music. Even when you are pressed for time, you still can make a girl’s trip happen… we sure did!
