Have you ever gone on vacation and the place you stayed in was hard to leave? That was my experience when I stayed at the South Padre Island Holiday KOA property. A few friends and I drove down to South Padre Island for a much-needed weekend getaway, to visit with friends who live in the area, and attend the annual festival Sandcastle Days. After driving a few hours, once you go over the two-mile-long Queen Isabella Causeway bridge that connects the mainland to the island, a quick left off the bridge and you have arrived at SPI Holiday KOA.
We arrived at sunset and after we parked to unload our luggage, we couldn’t help but sit outside on the private deck of our waterfront deluxe cabin to admire the sunset view; it was beautiful. Being that our cabin was located right on the bay, we were visited by dolphins, pelicans, and other wildlife. The cabin was spacious and included 1 set-single bunk bed, 1 full sleeper sofa, 1 queen bed, linens, a full bath with shower, and a full kitchen. It slept up to 6 people.
The KOA resort has accommodations for the traveler of all sorts. What came in handy for me as a travel writer and business owner, was having WIFI to get some work done and cable TV for my friends to enjoy while I worked. On the property aside from the waterfront cabins, there are also RV sites with full hookups, condos, and primitive tent camping sites. Fishermen in your group? A newly renovated boat ramp right on the property is available and free for KOA guests to use.
What made it difficult to leave the property and explore the island was all the great extras available that most lodging facilities do not have. Other on-site amenities included the Pier 19 Restaurant and Bar, Osprey Fishing Trips, large hot tub and 25-meter pool, exercise room, children’s playground and a play area just for your pets. For my fitness friends who cannot enjoy a getaway without making time for a quick work out, South Padre Island Holiday KOA offered Zumba classes, Aqua Zumba classes, floor aerobics, and pool aerobics for the guests.
With a full itinerary and partying like rock stars at Sandcastle Days, we stayed in on our second night to rest for the next full day of festivities. We had a fun time having a few drinks and playing games in the recreation room all while admiring the view of the bay. The KOA resort has amenities for all ages and is like a private getaway all on its own. Our waterfront cabin was comfy, cozy, and I loved how we could park our cars right by it. South Padre Island Holiday KOA makes a perfect getaway for a group of friends, a family vacation, and/or anyone who needs alone time. Being surrounded by the bay, listening to the tranquility of the water, seeing dolphins and fish jump, seagulls and pelicans flying right over you, how can you not enjoy yourself in such a setting. I cannot wait to go back.
A big thank you to the South Padre Island Holiday KOA resort for hosting my friends and I for a wonderful weekend. All opinions expressed are my own. For more information about the resort, visit: https://koa.com/campgrounds/south-padre.
