Two things I love the most: my 3 silly nephews and my city. I took full advantage of the cooler weather we’ve been having and picked up my nephews on a Saturday after work and headed over to the Home2 Suites by Hilton San Antonio Downtown hotel to treat them to a staycation for their long weekend. Most people wouldn’t think of taking time off for a staycation in the winter season but, with traveling not being so busy till the Spring Break season hits, you get to enjoy the sites without the crowds.
As soon as we arrived to Home2 Suites by Hilton San Antonio Downtown, we were welcomed to the hotel by the friendly valet staff and by the time we got the nephews off the car, our luggage was already loaded up on a bell cart. The quaint hotel sits right at the corner of Navarro and Houston street which made it easy to venture out to some cool spots in the area. The hotel lobby is bright, vibrant, and the hotel’s energy is warm and cozy. My nephews were so excited to be on the highest floor of the hotel, the first thing they did when we got into the room was look out the windows at our view of downtown San Antonio, the tower included.
What I loved most about the rooms was how spacious they were. Our room had 2 queen beds and a pull-out sofa bed. Everyone slept comfy and had plenty of pillows. Traveling with kids, it was great to have a kitchen and table that was stored and easy to pull out from underneath a desk I was able to get work done on. Our first night at the hotel we stayed in and ordered pizza for boys and sushi from mom and I. (The front desk shared a bunch of delivery places in the area that delivered to Home2 Suites by Hilton San Antonio Downtown.)
Morning came, and we fueled up for our day out at the hotel breakfast bar. They had an assortment of cereals, pastries, breakfast sandwiches, and you can even get fresh waffles made. We ventured out on Houston street and visited some of the shops, the Buckhorn Museum, and loaded up on snacks at the Walgreens across the street. The nephews loved the store Trésor; we spent quite a bit of time checking out all precious gems and fossils they had and even took a few souvenirs home. Thankfully it was a beautiful day and though it was a bit chilly, it was still a fun adventure to walk around and see the sights. Home2 Suites by Hilton San Antonio Downtown is literally steps away from our beautiful Majestic Theatre, The Palm restaurant, La Panadería, and other trendy downtown establishments.
After our adventure on Houston street and lunch, we surprised the boys by taking them to the hotel pool. If you follow my blog, you know how much my family and I LOVE to go to the river and the beach. Being that it’s a bit too cold for swimming outside, the indoor heated pool was the next best thing. The small pool inside Home2 Suites by Hilton San Antonio Downtown went from 3- 5 feet; we were lucky to have it all to ourselves the whole time we were there and according to my 5-year-old nephew, the quiet pool room was relaxing and great for meditation. (His words.)
Our stay at the Home2 Suites by Hilton San Antonio Downtown hotel was one to remember; even our stuffed animals and blankets from home were treated well. Most of all, I loved how my nephews got to experience a different part of the downtown area with its unique boutiques, seeing buses and cabs go by, and locals walking around and about as we were. With its sweet staff, complimentary snacks, amazing sunrise view from our spacious room, comfy beds and linens, full kitchen, and heated pool, we can’t wait till our next staycation there. A big special thanks to Associate General Manager Sandy Rios for checking in on us and making sure our stay was most excellent.
