Salt Cave in South San Antonio, Texas

Even us spa junkies that take care of clients on the daily need some relaxation in our lives. That is exactly what I did on my day off this week; I took a day off for some ME time and visited the Salt Cave inside the quaint Pure Sol Spa at the Embassy Suites by Hilton San Antonio Brooks Hotel & Spa. The one of a kind Salt Cave is esthetically a site to see and makes you feel as if you are far away in mystical world of ambience. When the spa attendant that checked me in explained how and what the treatment is good for, I didn’t think I was going to slip away into such tranquility that I’d fall asleep. Boy, was I wrong…

The huge amount of salt used in the Salt Cave creates a unique microclimate (the climate of a very small or restricted area) in the cave. The ion enriched climate in the cave is naturally absorbed into the body during your treatment. By inhaling the saturated air from the Salt Cave, it increases the important elements needed for good health for all ages. The cave itself puts you in a relaxing mood the minute you walk in. (Check out the video at the end of this blog.) My session in the Salt Cave not only relaxed me, but it made me feel as if I had gotten hours of sleep. The spa attendant covered up my shoes for sanitation purposes and seated me in a very comfortable lounging chair. She then tucked me in with a thick cozy blanket and left the cave so that I may enjoy my treatment privately. As I was reclined comfortably in my chair nice and tucked it, I took a few deep breaths, closed my eyes, and escaped from reality for a few. The ambient spa music was playing, and I couldn’t help but take in how lovely the experience was. After my 30-minute session, the spa attendant came back into the cave to let me know my session was over. I had just woken up about 2 minutes before she entered the room and felt amazing. I stood up, stretched, took a few more deep breaths, and was ready to continue with my day. I felt well rested. I was really intrigued by all the research that has proven the therapeutic values of the Salt Cave and their positive influence in the treatment of illnesses, diseases, and disorders. Here are a few: Respiratory illnesses, insufficient circulation of blood, asthma and bronchial tube inflammation, post heart attack conditions, ear, nose and throat, esophagus and sinus conditions, gastritis, stress reduction, general nervousness and exhaustion. The Salt Cave treatment also improves the ability to concentrate, inadequate blood pressure, and puts you in fresh mood. (In case of overproduction of the hyperthyroidism, tuberculosis and claustrophobia, a doctor must be consulted.)Since the Salt Cave is the only one in San Antonio, be sure to book your reservation in advance; children are welcomed if an adult is present. The sessions last from 30-45 minutes. Every session starts exactly at the beginning of the hour and lasts 30 or 45 minutes and be sure to arrive 10 minutes prior. Pure Sol Spa also offers an array of different spa services. For more information and/or to schedule an appointment, please visit the website: SaltCave.
