Every time I visit a small town, I always search the good ol internet to find out if there are any art galleries and nature centers. (Art and nature are kinda my thing.) To my surprise, Rockport has a couple of wetlands right in the heart of the city. It was extremely hot, the warm air was blowing hard, but, that didn’t stop us from taking a hike through the trials of Rockport’s wetlands, Demo Bird Garden (Tule Marsh) and Aransas Pathways.
Rockport Demo Bird Garden and Wetlands or referred to as Tule Marsh East by Rockport residents, has a nice boardwalk walkway for wildlife viewing and goes over a small marshy pond. When I took my walk on the boardwalk, I saw many different bird species, turtle, and a few deer. To my surprise the deer were not afraid of me being there and didn’t run off. The wetlands don’t have an actual parking lot but has a shaded road you can park on.
The Aransas Pathways Pavilion & Bridge is also where the Shellcrete Birding site and Tule Creek Hike and Bike Trail are located. Mom and I spent quite a bit of time there. We saw heron, turtle, cardinal, and mullet. The view from the bridge opposite of the city street was like a painting. Under the pavilion was lots of information of all other Aransas Pathways projects that consist of: birding, history, kayaking, and hike and bike trails.
Both flora and fauna areas are a great place for the avid bird and animal watcher, nature lover, photographer, and relaxation. The Aransas Pathways is located at 2491 Hwy 35 N and Demo Bird Garden and Wetlands is located at 2405 Highway 35 N and both are in Rockport, Texas.
