Russo’s Invitation

My family and I were invited to have dinner at Russo’s Coal Fired Italian Kitchen and Wine Bar by Owner and Chef Anthony Russo. The Italian Kitchen and Wine Bar is located at The Rim in San Antonio, Texas. What I thought was going to be a simple tasting, turned out to be big delicious Italian feast.

As soon as you walk into Russo’s, the welcoming staff, warm light and wonderful aroma instantly sets the mood for a great dining experience. We waited for our table to be ready for just a few minutes. While we waited, the nephews loved watching the pizzaiolos (pizza makers) as they spun around and tossed up the dough.

The atmosphere at Russo’s is great for family, a date-night, a girl’s night out, a quick bite and drink after work and pretty much any occasion. The place was packed with happy families and satisfied bellies.

Dining Experience

The kitchen’s traditional family recipes are made with only freshest and best ingredients; you can certainly taste them in every bite of any entrée you try. If you’re like me, you love enjoying a glass a wine with your meal. Russo’s has a wine bar and selection of craft beers.

Chef Russo’s spoiled us with bringing out a big selection of appetizers to try out. We had Bruschetta Pomodoro, Mozzarella Friti, Cucumber & Feta Salad, and (my favorite) fried cauliflower to name a few.

While we sipped on Rose´ and enjoyed our appetizers, Chef Russo personally came to our table to make sure things were going well. It was pretty obvious the entire staff of the restaurant works well together to make sure all their guests are comfortable and have all they need to enjoy their dining experience.

Pizza and Entrees

I was a bit worried about what my nephews were going to eat while we were there because they are picky eaters. But, one thing they do love, is pizza. I am usually not big on pizza because I don’t like thick crust. The brick oven baked pizzas at Russo’s have a light and crispy crust, which I love. In my opinion, the thinner the crust, the more toppings you can enjoy.

Our entrees were delicious, and the portion size is more than enough. Some of us took a to-go box. We all tried something different and each dish was flavorful. The best part of my dish was the lobster tail and shrimp; which were seasoned perfectly.

If you love Italian food, Russo’s is a must try. I know after the fantastic experience my family and I had, we will be back. To learn more about the history of Chef Russo, the kitchen and wine bar, and the menu items, visit the website.
