Good bye Winter and Hello Spring! When the cooler temperatures are here, our self-care routine tends to be different then when the weather is warmer. On our skin, we tend to use heavier moisturizers, masks, and less sunscreen. When it comes to our hair, we tend to go with darker tones and our wardrobe consists of layers to keep us warm.
Now that its springtime, its time shed all that dead dry winter skin and polish up for the warm Spring weather. Here are a few Self-Care Spring tips to get you started.
Get rid of layers of dead skin build up by exfoliating. Exfoliation will not only make your skin feel smoother but will also boost new skin cell production and stimulate circulation. Using a body brush prior to bathing helps get rid of dry skin and applying body lotion afterwards while your body is still dewy will give your skin a more intense hydrating feeling.
If you are not one to give yourself a manicure and pedicure, then it’s time to schedule one! Hands and feet take a beating in all we do, when you add cool dry weather to that, callouses, flakey skin and cuticles need to be taken care of. Wearing open toed shoes and having chalky looking feet isn’t something pretty to look at. Applying cuticle oil daily to your hands and feet on the nail area is a great way to help nails and cuticles from splitting. (Spring is also a great time to wear brighter nail colors.)
Tank tops and low back blouses will be worn now that Spring is here. If you are prone to body acne and sweat a lot, your pores have a bigger chance of getting clogged which can cause breakouts. Try a medicated body cleanser with benzoyl peroxide to clean out those pores or get monthly professional back facials to clean and extract impurities from your pores. If you have extreme back or body acne, I suggest you see a dermatologist.
Don’t leave home without it…I’m not talking about your American express card either. I’m talking about SUNSCREEN! Make sure you apply to all areas of the body that are exposed to the sun. Apply 20 to 30 minutes before going outside; this will give the sunscreen time to penetrate your skin. Your face is the most important thing you should protect from the sun. Use a SPF of at least 20 for you face. Don’t forget about your ears and your lips, they need protection as much as anything else.
Your scalp can also get sunburned from being out in the sun for long periods of time, protection them by wearing hats or caps. Keeping your head covered will also prevent you from overheating. The sun can also make your hair brittle and dry, which can cause hair breakage. Try keeping your hair pulled back in a cute ponytail to avoid it getting so dry. Use more detanglers or hydrating masks for your hair weekly to keep that nice sheen and your ends moisturized.
